Potential Efficient Separation of Oil from Bilgewater and Kitchen Wastewater by Fractional Freezing Process

Oily wastewater discharge to water bodies can have many negative consequences, especially on the marine ecological environment. Although there are numerous techniques for treating oily wastewater, this paper aims introduce and evaluate potential of fractional freezing (FF) process as a new oil–water separation technique overcome several weaknesses found in conventional methods. FF separates two liquid compounds based their point difference. In study, samples were used: bilgewater kitchen wastewater. The effects coolant temperature, time, stirring rate efficiency studied, significance data was supported by statistical analysis. results show that low temperature is essential allowing crystal nucleation formation inducing growth an efficient process. However, higher occurs at even lower might entrap impurities inside growing crystal. Consequently, continuing crystallization longer time may yield less Furthermore, too high will rupture solid formation, hence reducing efficiency. final values oil/grease free fatty acids (FFA) obtained after both comply with standard permitted International Maritime Organization (IMO) Palm Oil Refiners Association Malaysia (PORAM).
